About War & Horses

Written like a dime-store western novel, War & Horses is the second full-length book in the Children of Gaia sci-fi-fantasy series, following 2016’s Great Nations of Rendaraia. And it’s the first book set in the Earth-like realm of Terra, where humans rule, technology is fast advancing, and resources are running dry.

Deep in the dustbowl of the newly formed Republic of Draven, the old aristocracy coexists with a new government. Violent conflict often disrupts the uneasy peace. Into this discord walks a shadowy figure: the Triggerman. The only sure thing about him is that he leaves a trail of chaos in his wake. And following that path is journalist Landon Ford, documenting the Triggerman’s exploits and digging for the truth of his identity.

About the Triggerman

The Triggerman—whom the COG Core fondly calls “Trig”—is author Peter Lampasona’s character, and he brings a whole new deadly energy to the Children of Gaia series. In an interview, Lampasona said of Trig, “He’s not what you think, but he’s exactly what he tells you.” Lampasona also cites assassin Chris Kyle’s portrayal in American Sniper as an inspiration for the character.

The Triggerman previously appeared in Peter Lampasona and D.L. Johnson’s short comic “Carrying Iron” in the  8th Oneshi Press Comics Anthology. It’s also available as a standalone digital comic from Spinwhiz.

About the Illustrations

War & Horses is told from the perspective of Landon Ford, a journalist obsessed with the Triggerman. As he follows along the trail of violence the Triggerman leaves behind, he photographs his journeys. In War & Horses, these photos were illustrated by Jayel Draco. Draco also created photo-plate-style illustrations from an earlier “photographer” named Quinton Hale.

But War & Horses is an action-packed, gun-slinging adventure, too. Some parts of the story required an in-the-action illustrated style. So Chris Covelli stepped in, creating etching-style images of various scenes throughout the book.

The result is an utterly unique reading experience. War & Horses is part graphic novel, part dime-store Western, and entirely new. Learn more and preorder your copy of this unique  at the Oneshi Press store!
